Skydance Reportedly Moves to Develop Barbie 2
Sources tell Variety that Skydance wants a Barbie sequel underway, with ex-Mattel CEO Ynon Kriez, now co-CEO, helping the effort.
Skydance is reportedly making moves to get a Barbie sequel into development, according to sources speaking to Variety. The effort comes now that the company has Warner Bros.' catalog.
Ynon Kriez, the former Mattel CEO who is now co-CEO of the new company, is helping with the sequel effort, the sources said.
It is currently unknown how negotiations with director Greta Gerwig, or stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, have progressed.
Earlier efforts at Warner Bros.
Earlier this summer, a report claimed Warner Bros. wanted to get a Barbie sequel going. The studio spent months with Gerwig, Robbie and Gosling, with then-head David Zaslav calling proposed offers "too generous." If things didn't reach a conclusion by December, the rights would revert back to Mattel.
Barbie was a billion-dollar hit in 2023. Gosling recently booked Ghost Rider for Marvel, Gerwig is directing Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix, and Robbie is co-starring in the next Ocean's movie.
