Snoopy Unleashed Peanuts special set for 2027, introduces Mia

The new animated special brings Charlie Brown's pencil-pal Mia to the screen for the first time, voiced by Lara Mehmet.

A new Peanuts animated special titled Snoopy Unleashed is planned for release in 2027, according to polygon.com. The special will introduce Mia, one of Charlie Brown's pen pals, voiced by Lara Mehmet.

In the story, Charlie Brown receives a surprise visit from Mia, described as a wheelchair-using Londoner of South Asian descent. Her arrival leads Snoopy to run away to the big city, and Charlie Brown, Mia and the gang set off to chase after him.

Mia's debut marks the first time one of Charlie Brown's pen pals has officially appeared on screen in Peanuts.

A long-running pen-pal thread

The pencil-pal idea dates back to a comic strip published on August 25, 1958, in which Charlie Brown called his pencil pal his only real friend. On September 27, 1994, Peanuts creator Charles Schulz revealed the pen pal as Morag, a girl from Scotland, and Charlie Brown learned he was only one of her 30 pen-pals. The storyline ran occasionally until August 1998, and Morag was never mentioned again.

An unproduced special, Will Ye No Come Back Again, Charlie Brown?, was planned to continue Morag's story and surfaced in the 2012 book The Art and Making of Peanuts. The unused script was later adapted into the graphic novel Scotland Bound, Charlie Brown, published by Boom! Studios in 2021.
