Steven Soderbergh will step in for Matt Reeves to direct the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part 2, with the support of DC Studios, according to gamesradar.com.

Soderbergh will work closely with Reeves, who will remain off set. Once filming wraps, Reeves will take up post-production duties on the sequel.

The film retains a theatrical release date of February 18, 2026, though it is too soon to say whether the production pause will change it.

Cast and production shake-up

Earlier in October 2026, filming on The Batman Part 2 was halted to allow Reeves to attend a family matter. Just 10 days later, Deadline reported that Soderbergh would step in to direct the DC Studios sequel.

The cast includes Robert Pattinson as Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred and Colin Farrell as Penguin, with new additions Charles Dance, Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson and Sebastian Stan.

Soderbergh won an Oscar for his 2000 crime drama Traffic.
