Painter's work is having a moment on the big screen. A separate adaptation of her novel Better Than the Movies is currently in production, with Julia Hart directing and David Iacono and Beatrice Kitsos starring. Jordan Horowitz produced and wrote that script.
Painter's path to this point was hardly overnight. She spent 15 years receiving rejection letters while trying to land a literary agent, and last week she visited the set of the Better Than the Movies adaptation.
