South Park Discord Server Shuts Down After Paramount Support Lapses
Volunteer moderators closed the official South Park Discord, saying contact with Paramount and South Park Digital Studios had dwindled to six-month gaps.
The moderators of the official South Park Discord server announced the server is shutting down effective immediately, according to kotaku.com. The volunteer team said contact with South Park Digital Studios and Paramount had dwindled over two years, from weekly messages to gaps of six months or longer.
The shutdown followed a Discord bot policy update that took one of the server's moderation bots offline. Restoring the bot required personal information the volunteers declined to provide. The moderators said they asked Paramount to handle the restoration process and received no response.
The Paramount-Skydance merger was completed the week before the server closure.
The volunteer team had experienced doxxing incidents in the past, the moderators said. The Discord server served as the official community space for the animated series, which airs on Comedy Central.
