Sony Reportedly Prepares Spider-Man: Brand New Day Rerelease With Cut Cameo
New footage is said to include a cut Claire Temple scene featuring Rosario Dawson, with Deadline reporting further surprises.
Sony is reportedly planning a theatrical rerelease of Spider-Man: Brand New Day that would include new footage, among it a cameo by Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple that was cut from the version now in cinemas, according to Deadline.
The outlet reports that the added footage carries at least one cut scene tying the film to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that the Claire Temple appearance is not the only surprise in the extra material. Sony has not confirmed the plan, and the studio has not announced a date for any rerelease.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still in theaters. According to Box Office Mojo, the film has grossed $2.5 billion worldwide, including $958 million at the domestic box office after two months on release.
Box office standing
That worldwide total places it third on the all-time list, behind the original Avatar and Avengers: Endgame, and $428 million short of Avatar.
Sony has taken the extended-footage route with the character before, releasing an extended cut of Spider-Man: Far From Home and a "More Fun Stuff Version" of Spider-Man: No Way Home that included deleted scenes. Dawson previously played Claire Temple, also known as Night Nurse, across several Netflix Marvel series, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, and said in interviews that she filmed a scene cut from the theatrical release of Brand New Day.
