Spider-Man: Brand New Day Rerelease in the Works with Cut Rosario Dawson Scene

Sony Pictures is working on a theatrical rerelease of Spider-Man: Brand New Day that would include previously unseen footage, according to hollywoodreporter.com. Among the added material is a scene involving Rosario Dawson, whose role as Claire Temple was cut from the original film. A theatrical date for the potential rerelease has not been revealed.

The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal, hit screens on July 31. It has become the highest-grossing title ever at the domestic box office with more than $950 million, and ranks No. 3 on the all-time worldwide chart with $2.49 billion. It is just shy of becoming the first title to surpass $1 billion at the North American box office.

Over the most recent weekend, the film collected $4.1 million domestically. That weekend was topped by Avengers Endgame: Encore, which grossed $26 million domestically. The Endgame rerelease was timed to build excitement for Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on Dec. 18.

Dawson previously portrayed Claire Temple across multiple Marvel television series, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders. Endgame sits just above Brand New Day at No. 2 on the global chart with a worldwide cume of $2.885 billion.
