IDW Publishing announced it will release Star Trek: Crusher, a new comic written by Gates McFadden, in summer 2027. The announcement marks McFadden's comics writing debut.
Megan Levens is drawing the series, with colors by Charlie Kirchoff. IDW also released a cover image for Star Trek: Crusher.
The comic is set in the years between the film Nemesis and the finale of Star Trek: Picard. McFadden played Doctor Beverly Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation, which premiered nearly 40 years ago.
In 2023, the final season of Star Trek: Picard revealed that Jean-Luc Picard and Doctor Beverly Crusher had a son. McFadden made Star Trek history in 1994 when she became the first woman cast member to direct an episode.
Other Star Trek actors have also written for their characters: Andrew Robinson, who played Garak on Deep Space Nine, wrote a novel about the character, and JG Hertzler, who played Martok, wrote a book about his character. In the 1990s, Malibu Comics produced Star Trek comics, including a "Celebrity Series" of one-shots written by actors.
