Star Trek: United Writer Focused on Bakula's CBS Pilot
Michael Sussman says his current focus is Scott Bakula's untitled CBS detective series, while Star Trek: United depends on Skydance's plans.
Michael Sussman, the creator of Scott Bakula's new CBS series, said his focus is currently on that project rather than on Star Trek: United, according to screenrant.com. The CBS series is an untitled high concept detective procedural from Dean Devlin's Electric Entertainment, in development at CBS, with Bakula set to executive produce and star.
Sussman said the possibility of Star Trek: United moving forward depends on what Skydance, the new owner of Paramount+, does with the Star Trek franchise. He did not offer a timeline or a decision on the project.
In 2025, Sussman and Bakula revealed they had developed Star Trek: United and pitched it to Alex Kurtzman's Secret Hideout and Paramount+ years earlier. The pitch was initially considered too close to the then-in-development Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and Sussman has since reworked the project and continued its development.
Sussman confirmed Todd Stashwick would return as Talok, the Romulan operative he portrayed on Star Trek: Enterprise. That series is streaming on Paramount+.
Skydance reportedly plans to take Star Trek in a new direction after the final seasons of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Strange New Worlds premiere on Paramount+ in 2027. A new Star Trek movie is described as Paramount's priority, with a new TV series to follow.
