Street Fighter Movie Unveils 2D Animated Ryu and Ken Backstory

Paramount Pictures has released a first look at hand-drawn 2D animated sequences that will appear in its live-action Street Fighter movie, according to comingsoon.net. The footage shows Ryu and Ken in a style that recalls 1990s animation.
The 2D animation is used for backstory flashbacks centered on the two characters. In the live-action portions of the film, Noah Centineo plays Ken Masters and Andrew Koji plays Ryu.
Director Kitao Sakurai described the project as a bridge between Japanese and American culture. He cited Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Dragon Ball Z as animation influences for the sequences.
The first look arrived alongside a behind-the-scenes clip featuring Sakurai. Street Fighter is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 16, 2026.
