Tarantino Debuts 17 Minutes of Cliff Booth Sequel at AFI Fest
The Fincher-directed film, written by Tarantino and starring Brad Pitt, reaches Imax theaters on November 25 before streaming on Netflix.
Quentin Tarantino screened the first 17 minutes of The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth in public for the first time at AFI Fest in Los Angeles, according to Deadline. He brought out the footage at the end of a Q&A session at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
The sequel is directed by David Fincher and written by Tarantino, with Brad Pitt returning as Cliff Booth. Netflix will release the film in Imax theaters on November 25, followed by a debut on its streaming service on December 23.
Set in 1977, the film follows Cliff Booth as he works as a bartender, a projectionist and a fixer. The cast includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian.
A play headed for the West End
At the same event, Tarantino said his play The Popinjay Cavalier will premiere in London's West End next spring, with Sacha Baron Cohen starring. Previews begin February 23, with the opening set for March 18 at the Phoenix Theatre.
The original film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, was released in 2019, earned 10 Oscar nominations and starred Pitt as Cliff Booth. In 2024 it was announced that Pitt and Fincher would team on the project, which Tarantino originally wanted to direct. Earlier this week, Fincher told Empire that he cut 60 pages from Tarantino's 230-page first draft and that the final cut runs around 2 1/2 hours.
