The Odyssey to Return to IMAX and 70mm Screens on October 9
Universal announced that Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, will play again in select IMAX and 70mm theaters starting October 9.
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey will return to select IMAX theaters and 70mm screens, Universal announced. The screenings begin on October 9, according to comingsoon.net.
The film stars Matt Damon in the lead role.
The re-release follows a theatrical run in which The Odyssey grossed $1.76 billion worldwide, making it Universal's highest-grossing film of all time before inflation adjustment. It surpassed the $1.67 billion global record set by Jurassic World in 2015 during its ninth weekend.
The total is Nolan's career-best, ahead of the inflation-adjusted gross of The Dark Knight Rises. The film also holds the all-time R-rated box office record and the highest-grossing film ever for IMAX.
It is Nolan's third $1 billion-plus hit. The Dark Knight crossed $1 billion 18 years ago in 2008 and became the first superhero film to do so. The Odyssey is the first non-sequel and non-remake since Avatar in early 2010 to gross over $1 billion outside the U.S. and Canada.
Nolan's partnership with Universal began five years ago, when he left Warner Bros. to make Oppenheimer.
