Tiger ni Tsubasa Film Team Talks Theme at Tokyo Film Festival Q&A

Director Yoshio Nakagawa and screenwriter Erika Yoshida discussed the film, set for release on January 15, 2027, at the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival.

A Q&A for Theatrical Version Tiger ni Tsubasa was held in Yurakucho, Tokyo, during the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival, according to cinematoday.jp. Director Yoshio Nakagawa and screenwriter Erika Yoshida appeared at the event.

The film is an original story based on the NHK serial TV drama Tiger ni Tsubasa, and is set for release on January 15, 2027. It was screened in the festival's Gala Selection section.

The story depicts new episodes from the heroine's time in the women's department of Meiritsu University, and her final case, which is connected to the present day.

At the Q&A, Yoshida said the work's theme is that voices raised are not erased.

How the film adaptation came together

Nakagawa said the adaptation began after a Toho producer asked, while the morning broadcast was running, whether making a film was an option, and that it took about a year to decide the film's content. Yoshida said she was initially skeptical about the film being realized, because several scripts she worked on were never released.

The original 2024 drama, the 110th NHK serial TV drama, stars Sari Ito and is modeled on Mikami Yoshiko, regarded as Japan's first female lawyer and later its first female judge and court president.
