Tom Baker Open to Returning to Doctor Who

The Fourth Doctor actor told Radio Times he would go back to the BBC sci-fi series, especially if he has not worked for a few weeks.

Tom Baker has said he is open to returning to Doctor Who, according to an interview with Radio Times. The actor, who played the Fourth Doctor, said he remains fond of the series and would go back, particularly if he has not worked for a few weeks.

Baker led Doctor Who from 1974 to 1981, playing the Fourth Doctor across seven seasons. His first appearance came in the Season 11 finale "Planet of the Spiders," and his tenure ended in the Season 18 finale "Logopolis," where the Fourth Doctor regenerated into the Fifth Doctor, played by Peter Davison.

He later returned to the franchise in "The Day of the Doctor," playing the Curator. Collider reported on his comments.

A franchise built on returns

Doctor Who began in 1963 and follows an alien Time Lord called the Doctor who travels through time and space in the TARDIS. Fourteen actors have starred as the Doctor, or fifteen counting John Hurt as the War Doctor.

Multi-Doctor stories date back to the 1973 four-part serial "The Three Doctors," which brought together Jon Pertwee, Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell. In 2023, David Tennant returned to the series during the specials.
