It marks the third time Universal has surpassed $5 billion globally, following 2015 and 2017.
Billion-dollar titles drive the haul
Three Universal releases are among the five films to reach $1 billion worldwide this year: The Odyssey, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael. The Odyssey has become Universal's highest-grossing release ever, surpassing $1.7 billion worldwide. Universal distributed the Michael Jackson biopic Michael overseas, while Lionsgate handled its domestic release.
Elsewhere in the company, Focus Features scored its highest-grossing title ever with Obsession, which is also the highest-grossing feature for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
Universal's remaining 2026 slate includes Other Mommy, Sense & Sensibility, Focker-in-Law, Violent Night 2 and Werwulf. DreamWorks Animation's original feature Forgotten Island opens this weekend.
