Restored 'Unzipped' Documentary Returns to Theaters

A restored version of the 1995 documentary Unzipped is being released, bringing the fashion-world time capsule back to audiences. The film was directed by Douglas Keeves, who was Isaac Mizrahi's boyfriend at the time.

Unzipped follows the planning and execution of Mizrahi's fall 1994 collection show, running just 73 minutes. It features a who's-who of supermodels and fashion figures, including Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, André Leon Talley and Eartha Kitt.

Miramax bought the film after it became a hit at Sundance in 1995. About 10 minutes of Faye Dunaway footage was cut because rights to footage from Mommie Dearest could not be obtained.

Mizrahi, now 64, has stayed busy beyond the runway. He appeared in Marty Supreme as Gwyneth Paltrow's press agent, serves as creative director at Target and sells a collection on QVC.

Separately, the Metropolitan Museum of Art cancelled a planned John Galliano retrospective that would have run from May 9, 2027, to Jan. 9, 2028. Galliano announced on Instagram that he was pulling the retrospective amid backlash over his past racist comments.
