Vantage Media Takes North American Rights to Polish Drama Exotic
The film, the first feature from director Sonja Orlewicz-Zakrzewska, premieres in the First Feature Competition at Tallinn Black Nights.
Vantage Media has acquired North American rights to the Polish feature Exotic, ahead of its world premiere at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, according to Deadline. The festival runs from November 6 to 22, and the film will screen in its First Feature Competition.
Berlin-based sales company Pluto Film unveiled a first international trailer to coincide with the announcement. The film stars Jaśmina Polak, Magdalena Koleśnik and Monika Frajczyk, with Gutek handling the Polish release.
The deal was negotiated by Jessica Russo of VMI Worldwide and Vantage Media and Daniel Vadocky of Pluto Film.
A first feature built around a real camp
Exotic is the first feature of director and writer Sonja Orlewicz-Zakrzewska, and it grew out of her personal fascination with pole dancing. It was shot during a real-life edition of a pole-dancing Exo Stars Camp, with real participants and instructors appearing in the film.
The project received support from the Polish Film Institute's microbudget scheme aimed at first-time directors. Orlewicz-Zakrzewska's first short, Cross'n'Carry, screened in 2019 at festivals including New Horizons, HollyShorts and BEAST Portugal, and in 2021 she took part in the script training lab Atelier Scenariuszowe and the EAVE Producers Workshop. As a cinematographer she worked on Enthusiasts, a documentary series for Canal+.
