VisionQuest Reveals F.R.I.D.A.Y. and E.D.I.T.H. Were Based on Real People
Episodes 3 and 4 show Tony Stark's AIs were modeled on Howard Stark's assistant Alison Hogan and Stark Industries pilot Edith Marks.
Episodes 3 and 4 of VisionQuest revealed that two of Tony Stark's artificial intelligences were modeled on real people, according to comingsoon.net. F.R.I.D.A.Y. was based on Alison Hogan, Howard Stark's assistant, while E.D.I.T.H. originated from Edith Marks, a Stark Industries fighter pilot whose husband died in a plane crash.
The episodes confirmed that the Stark AIs were built around people from Tony Stark's own life. Showrunner Terry Matalas is named as the one behind the choice to give E.D.I.T.H. that origin.
Emily Hampshire plays E.D.I.T.H. in the series. In the episodes, Ultron tells her she is “exceptionally brave” and gets to be the next version of who she once was, and says scientists created him in a lab at Avengers Tower. Hampshire praised working with James Spader, who plays Ultron, for the first time.
The reveal follows an earlier connection in the franchise: J.A.R.V.I.S. was based on Edwin Jarvis, the Stark family's butler previously seen in Agent Carter.
