Games Workshop Taps Mike Flanagan, United Artists for Warhammer 40,000
Mike Flanagan and United Artists will direct the Warhammer 40,000 live-action series for Prime Video, while a Deathwatch animated series is also in development.
Games Workshop has assigned United Artists and Mike Flanagan to direct the Warhammer 40,000 live-action adaptation for Prime Video, and has begun work on a full animated series featuring Space Marines – Deathwatch. The announcement was made by Games Workshop.
The live-action series has already completed initial outlines, and Flanagan is set to move on to script after those outlines were finished. Henry Cavill remains attached to star.
The Deathwatch animated series will be written by John Orloff, animated by Blur, and released through Amazon.
In July 2025, Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree revealed in a financial report that Amazon had assigned United Artists and Mike Flanagan to the Warhammer 40K adaptation. Flanagan directed Stephen King adaptations Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep, and Netflix horror series The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. His upcoming projects include Prime Video's Carrie and DC Studios' Clayface. Cavill is a fan of the Warhammer 40,000 game and universe. In the same July 2025 report, Rountree said an episode for Secret Level Season 2 set in the Age of Sigmar universe is almost completed.
