Young Sheldon Book Reveals Scrapped Season 7 Storylines
Jessica Radloff says writers wanted Sheldon to stay in Germany longer and had planned a Missy storyline for the final season.
Author Jessica Radloff has revealed storylines that were cut from season 7 of Young Sheldon in an interview tied to her new behind-the-scenes book, according to screenrant.com. The book is titled "Young Sheldon: The (Juicier-Than-Meemaw’s-Brisket) Inside Story of the Hit Comedy."
One scrapped plot would have expanded the friendship between Missy and Pastor Jeff's niece, who was living with him, along with Officer Robin. The storyline had the group getting into trouble together.
Radloff also said the writers wanted Sheldon to stay in Germany longer, but had to bring him and Mary back to Medford because of limited time. In season 7, the Germany storyline wrapped up by episode 4.
The final season ran for 14 episodes, the fewest in the show's history, partly because of production delays linked to the Hollywood strikes. According to Radloff, the writers were unsure they would get even 14 episodes for the final season.
Young Sheldon ended its seven-season run on CBS in 2024. CBS had ordered the series, a prequel to The Big Bang Theory, two years before that show wrapped. In the season 6 finale, Sheldon and Mary traveled to Germany for a summer research program while a tornado demolished Connie's house in Medford.
