Amazon Unveils Alexa Tablet 12 Pro With NanoMatte Display
Panos Panay, now at Amazon, announced the new Alexa tablet range, including the 12 Pro with an anti-glare NanoMatte screen and Google Play access.
Amazon has unveiled a new range of Amazon Alexa tablets, including the Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, according to windowscentral.com. The announcement was made by Panos Panay, who now works for Amazon after years leading Microsoft's hardware division.
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro features a NanoMatte anti-glare display. Amazon says the screen is etched in a way that aligns with the display's pixels, offering what the company describes as strong contrast retention in bright conditions and text that feels like it is sitting on top of the glass.
The tablet runs Android and can access the Google Play Store, putting it alongside Amazon's existing Alexa tablet lineup rather than a closed app ecosystem.
Context
Panos Panay led Microsoft's hardware division for years before joining Amazon. Microsoft held a Windows and Surface event last week that focused heavily on the Surface Laptop Ultra.
Anti-reflective displays have been a recurring topic in the Surface world. Our Editor-in-Chief Daniel Rubino argued back in 2020 that Microsoft needed to use anti-reflective displays in Surface PCs, and even as recently as 2026, Surface Laptop 8 shoppers needed to choose between an anti-glare display or 5G connectivity.
