Amazon Wins Approval for 18-Acre Data Center Near M25 in Iver
Buckinghamshire Council backed the Ridgeway industrial complex plan after weighing demand and jobs against environmental concerns.
Buckinghamshire Council has granted Amazon planning approval to build a data center on an 18-acre site beside the M25 in Iver, the company has confirmed. The facility will replace 17 industrial and warehouse buildings at the Ridgeway industrial complex.
Council officers judged that data center demand, job creation and an expected fall in traffic outweighed other considerations in recommending the proposal for approval. Planning documents estimate the project could create 60 permanent jobs.
Environmental health officers had warned that 27 backup generators could release pollutants during testing and maintenance. A legal agreement requires Amazon to provide £600,382 for pollution offsetting measures and £73,000 for public walking route improvements.
The decision follows earlier disputes over data center plans in the county. Buckinghamshire Council previously rejected another proposed data center at the Court Lane industrial site before that decision was overturned by the housing secretary, and this year the government acknowledged that an earlier approval for a facility at the Woodlands Park landfill had been granted incorrectly by officials.
