AMD to Build AI Center of Excellence in South Korea

AMD plans to hire several hundred AI researchers in South Korea as Nvidia reviews sites in Magok, Pangyo and Songdo for an AI technology center.

AMD plans to establish an AI Center of Excellence (CoE) in South Korea within the year and hire several hundred AI researchers over the coming years, according to inews24.com. The announcement was made as AMD chair Lisa Su met with South Korean Vice Minister of Science and ICT Ryu Je-myung in Seoul to discuss cooperation with the country's AI talent and industry ecosystem.

Su said AMD's principle is always open ecosystems and collaboration. The company also plans to demonstrate heterogeneous computing infrastructure in South Korea by combining domestic AI semiconductors with its own CPUs and GPUs.

Nvidia is separately reviewing candidate sites in Magok (Gangseo-gu, Seoul), Pangyo (Seongnam, Gyeonggi) and Songdo (Incheon) for an AI technology center, and has already begun recruiting AI research staff in South Korea.

Madison Huang, senior director of product and technical marketing for Nvidia's Physical AI platform, will attend 'NVIDIA AI Day Seoul 2026' at COEX in Seoul on the 9th and 10th of next month.
