Anthropic launches Claude Duet proactive AI agent as preview

Anthropic unveiled Claude Duet, a personal AI agent that works proactively without being prompted, the company said on October 21, 2026. It was released as a research preview for US Claude paid subscribers who joined a waitlist.
Claude Duet runs on Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 model and is available on the web and as standalone Android and iOS apps. According to digitaltoday.co.kr, the agent can produce daily briefings, schedule appointments, build dashboards, make financial and sales forecasts, create prototypes and build web apps, and it asks for user approval before carrying out important tasks.
During the research preview, Claude Duet is included at no extra cost in the $20 per month Pro plan and the Max plan. It shares usage limits with other Claude tools, including coding features, and background tasks count toward those limits.
The agent integrates with Stripe to check unpaid invoices and with Shop Pay to make purchases after user approval. Anthropic said Claude Duet does not directly see passwords or login tokens and only accesses health or personal finance data when the user explicitly allows it. It is not yet available on Team and Enterprise plans, with expansion planned later.
Anthropic released Claude Duet on the same day Meta reported its earnings. Karan Ahuja, a product manager at Meta Superintelligence Labs who joined Anthropic in August, led development of the agent, and Alexandr Wang, who heads Meta Superintelligence Labs, posted a meme suggesting Claude Duet resembles Meta's AI agent Muse.
Apptopia estimated Muse installations surpassed 14 million as of October 21. OpenAI also offers its agent Dots to Pro subscribers.
