Anthropic Pauses Startup Perks After Flood of Applications
Anthropic will re-review all applications for its Claude for Startups program after hundreds of thousands were submitted, exceeding its capacity.
Anthropic said it has paused the free one-year Claude Team access and 1,000 USD API credit benefits offered through its startup program, after receiving hundreds of thousands of applications in the past few days. The company said the volume exceeded its capacity, according to platum.kr.
Anthropic will re-review every application already submitted, and said some application statuses may change as a result. Accounts that had already received the benefits are unaffected by the pause.
The company said it will redesign the program so it is aimed at startup founders. Its notice did not say when benefit distribution would resume.
Applications to the program itself are still being accepted, with a review result target of within one week by email.
Background
On the 6th of this month, Anthropic announced it was expanding the Claude for Startups program to open it to more companies. Under that announcement, companies using the paid Claude Team plan for the first time could use up to five premium seats free for one year, and approved companies could receive a one-time 1,000 USD API credit. Anthropic valued the two benefits at up to 7,000 USD, combining 6,000 USD for five premium seats at 100 USD per seat per month for a year plus 1,000 USD in API credits. Eligibility was startups founded within five years or that received investment within the past two years. The Claude for Startups program launched this year, and its Startup Stack bundles partner discounts and credits, including 5,000 USD in cloud credits from ClickHouse, 12 months free from ElevenLabs and three months free of Granola's business plan.
