Apple unveils HomeView smart display at $299

Apple announced HomeView on October 13, alongside HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K, which reach Japan on November 13.

Apple announced a new smart home lineup centered on a device called HomeView on October 13, US time, according to watch.impress.co.jp. The HomeView carries a square display that can be mounted on a wall and is priced at 299 dollars.

The device runs Siri AI and supports HomeKit, music, video and call integration, but it does not use the App Store.

Apple also said the HomePod mini 2 and the Apple TV 4K (4th generation) will go on sale in Japan on November 13. The company did not announce a Japanese release date for HomeView.

Partner lineup ships in December

The Apple Home Collection is offered jointly with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric and is not made by Apple. According to Apple's release, sales start at Apple Store in December, with prices given for the US and Canada but not for Japan.

One item in the lineup, the LG Smart Deadbolt Lock, is a replacement-cylinder type lock that cannot be used as-is in Japan.

Smart displays with built-in assistants were established in the late 2010s, when Amazon released its Echo Show series and Google released the Google Nest Hub series. Google has since brought Gemini and Amazon has brought Alexa+ to their smart home products, and Amazon created Japan-specific models for its Ring security cameras.
