Apple to release iOS 27.2 next week with updates to six apps

Apple will release iOS 27.2 next week, an update that adds features to six of the iPhone's default apps: Messages, Apple TV, FaceTime, Home, Apple Podcasts and Games. The details were reported by the IT outlet 9to5Mac.

In Messages, a new "suggested actions" feature proposes follow-up tasks such as creating calendar events, adding reminders or saving notes. Users can adjust which types of suggestions appear. Apple tested the feature in the iOS 27 beta this summer but did not ship it in the public release.

The Apple TV app in iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 adds a profile selection screen on iPhone and iPad to separate watch history and recommendations. The profile picker appears when the app launches and can be turned off. Profile selection was previously available on tvOS.

FaceTime Dual Capture expands to group FaceTime calls starting with iOS 27.2. On iPhone 17 and later, pressing the camera switch button sends both camera views simultaneously. Dual Capture was first added in iOS 27.

The Home app adds a "lock after door closes" automation that locks a door a set time after it closes, plus an "open door" notification when a compatible lock stays open beyond a set time. Previously, auto-lock could only be set based on time elapsed after unlocking. Apple Podcasts splits its Home tab queue into "New Episodes" and "Continue Playing", and the Games app Home tab now shows recently downloaded games that have not been launched yet, with achievement progress and leaderboard scores easier to track.
