Apple said to lift iPhone Duo first-year target to 14 million units
Supply chain sources cited by Nikkei Asia say the order rose 44% from 9.7 million, with Foxconn and component makers given updated instructions.
Apple has reportedly raised its iPhone Duo shipment target by 44%, telling suppliers to prepare 14 million units for the first 12 months of production instead of 9.7 million, according to Nikkei Asia. Foxconn and component makers have reportedly received the updated instructions.
Some pre-order shipping dates have been pulled forward, the report says. The iPhone Duo goes on sale on October 23 starting at $1,999 in the US.
Apple has warned that walk-in stock will be limited on launch day and has capped purchases at two units per person.
The same report forecasts global foldable shipments to grow 25.7% in 2026 and 59.1% in 2027.
Earlier forecasts pointed lower
Pre-orders opened last week, with shipping dates slipping to January within hours. In July, Nikkei Asia reported that Apple had asked suppliers to make around 10 million foldable iPhones in 2026, and in September analyst Jeff Pu said only 6 million units would be produced in 2026 because of hinge production constraints.
