Apple Sets Oct. 28 Event; OLED Touch MacBooks Expected

Invitations went out for an all-day Los Angeles launch, where Bloomberg's Mark Gurman expects OLED MacBooks, an OLED iPad mini and M6 models.

Apple has invited media to an all-day product launch in Los Angeles on October 28, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The event is expected to center on new MacBooks and a refreshed iPad mini.

Gurman reports that two MacBook lines are on the agenda. The first is an OLED touchscreen family in 14- and 16-inch sizes with a redesigned, lighter build, powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The second is a 14-inch model with the base M6 chip in a largely unchanged design.

The OLED machines are rumored to replace the notch with a Dynamic Island and may offer optional 5G. They carry the internal code name "MacBook Ultra" and are expected to be pricey.

iPad mini and iMac refreshes

A new iPad mini is also expected, with an OLED display and an M6 chip, likely starting at $799. The camera moves to the long edge for landscape use, and the tablet gets a new speaker system. Apple is also set to announce iMacs with the M6 chip, which appear to be chip refreshes that may bring new colors.

Talk of an OLED touchscreen MacBook has circulated for years. Apple last refreshed the iPad mini in 2024, when it moved to the A17 Pro chip at a $599 starting price. In September, the company launched the Mac Mini with the M5 Pro chip or the base M6 chip.
