Gurman: Apple tests OLED MacBook Air and iMac prototypes
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports the OLED versions of both machines are still far from launch, while the next MacBook Pro is expected to get OLED first.
Apple is testing prototype versions of the MacBook Air and iMac fitted with OLED displays, according to Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter for Bloomberg. Gurman reported that the OLED upgrades for both machines are not expected to launch in the near future.
The report places the two products behind Apple's nearer-term plans. The company's upcoming special event is forecast to include an OLED upgrade for the MacBook Pro, making the pro laptop the first of the three lines to make the switch.
Prototype stage, not product stage
Testing prototypes indicates that work on OLED versions of the consumer Macs is under way, but Gurman's account gives no timeline for when either machine would ship.
The 24-inch iMac currently sold by Apple does not use an OLED display, a detail that has not changed with the appearance of the test units described in the newsletter.
Apple has not commented on the report, which was published by appleinsider.com.
