Apple unveils touchscreen MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display

The new laptops use tandem OLED panels rated at up to 2,000 nits peak HDR brightness and carry a $400 higher base price.

Apple has released new MacBook Pro models that add a touchscreen and a display technology the company calls PROLED XDR, according to Engadget.

The panels use tandem OLED technology, which stacks multiple organic layers into a single panel. Apple says the PROLED XDR displays reach up to 2,000 nits peak HDR brightness, compared with 1,600 nits for the current Mini LED models, and claims a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

According to Apple, the displays cover the P3 and Adobe RGB color gamuts and 80 percent of the Rec.2020 gamut. The laptops keep Apple's 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate and offer a nano-texture option etched into the cover glass.

The new MacBook Pros carry a $400 higher base price than the models they sit above.

Previously on iPad Pro

Tandem OLED was first used on the M4 iPad Pro, according to the article. The MacBook Pro line has until now relied on Mini LED panels with 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness.
