AWS Releases Open-Source Decision Model Strands Decider 2B

Amazon Web Services has launched Strands Decider 2B, a fully open-source decision model small enough to run locally, the same week OpenAI announced a similar offering.

Amazon Web Services has released an open-source decision model called Strands Decider 2B. The model is fully open-sourced and available now, and is small enough to run locally.

The release came the same week OpenAI announced a similar offering. Strands Decider 2B was released by Amazon's Strands Labs.

Marc Brooker, an Amazon distinguished engineer, initiated the project after seeing TypeSafe's Jev. The project briefly reached the top spot on the Jevbench ranking for models of its size.

TypeSafe debuted its decision model Jev, named after economist William Stanley Jevons, in October 2025. Dozens of similar decision models have been produced by researchers since that debut.

In an interview, TypeSafe CEO Diogo Almeida said he did not see real competition emerging yet.
