BMW Unveils iX4 Electric SUV With 428-Mile Range

The coupe-shaped iX4 is BMW's third Neue Klasse model and starts at $66,200 when the 50 xDrive trim arrives in March 2027.

BMW has announced the iX4, a coupe-shaped electric SUV and the third vehicle built on its Neue Klasse platform, according to theverge.com. The iX4 50 xDrive will launch first in March 2027, priced from $66,200 excluding destination and handling fees, with the M60 xDrive following later in the year.

BMW says the iX4 offers up to 428 miles of EPA-estimated range from a 112.2kWh Gen6 battery. The 50 xDrive produces 463 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60mph time of 4.7 seconds, while the M60 xDrive produces 603hp and 645 lb-ft.

Charging comes via a NACS port compatible with more than 80,000 Tesla Supercharger connectors. BMW says the iX4 supports 400kW DC fast charging, adding up to 184 miles in 10 minutes and going from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes.

Third model on Neue Klasse

The iX4 follows the iX3 and i3 as the third vehicle on BMW's Neue Klasse platform. BMW has said its Gen6 drive system cuts energy losses by 40 percent and weight by 10 percent compared to earlier systems, and that the Gen6 cylindrical battery cells provide a 20 percent increase in energy density over the prismatic cells used in its Gen5 batteries.
