Boston Dynamics Names Ex-Amazon AI Chief Rohit Prasad CEO
Rohit Prasad, formerly Amazon's SVP and Head Scientist for AI and Alexa, takes over at the Hyundai-owned robotics company starting Wednesday.
Boston Dynamics announced that Rohit Prasad will become its new CEO starting Wednesday. Prasad previously served as a Senior Vice President and Head Scientist for AI and Alexa at Amazon.
Boston Dynamics is owned by Hyundai. The company did not disclose additional details about the leadership transition in the announcement, according to Gizmodo.
The appointment follows the resignation of former CEO Robert Playter, which led to what was described as a "C-suite exodus" at the company.
Manufacturing plans
Boston Dynamics previously stated it plans to manufacture 30,000 humanoid robots by 2028, with 25,000 intended for Hyundai and Kia factories. In May, Semafor reported that Boston Dynamics was only making four Atlas humanoid robots per month.
In January, Boston Dynamics said Hyundai's Savannah, Georgia factory will be partly a robot factory. An Atlas robot can reach up to 7.5 feet high and lift 110 pounds.
