Danu Robotics Raises $5M to Bring Recycling Sorting Robot to Market

Edinburgh-based Danu Robotics has closed late-seed funding and says its H.E.R.O. robot uses a pincer claw instead of suction to sort recyclable items.

Danu Robotics has raised $5 million in late-seed funding and is bringing its H.E.R.O. recycling sorting robot to market, according to TechCrunch. The Edinburgh-based company says it holds letters of interest from two large customers and $500,000 worth of signed contracts.

More than 200 customers sit in Danu Robotics' sales pipeline, the company said. The H.E.R.O. robot picks up items with a pincer claw rather than a suction system, a design choice that distinguishes it from the vacuum-based grippers common in recycling sorting equipment.

Danu Robotics applies AI to continuously improve the robot's software, the company said.

From banking to recycling robotics

Danu Robotics is six years old and is based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Founder Amy Ma spent years as a software developer at a London bank before starting the company, according to TechCrunch.
