Ethereum completes first atomic cross-chain transaction between L1 and L2

Eduardo Antuña, core contributor to the Ethereum Economic Zone, says the bundled transaction succeeded on the Ethereum mainnet.

The first atomic cross-chain transaction linking Ethereum layer 1 and layer 2 has been executed successfully on the Ethereum mainnet, according to Eduardo Antuña, a core contributor to the Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) project.

Antuña shared the news on social media platform X. The transaction bundled and processed together transactions taking place on the Ethereum mainnet and layer 2 at the same time.

Under this design, the bundled transactions must all succeed together; if any one of them fails, the whole transaction is cancelled.

According to Antuña, this is the first time the technology for using different layers as one has been applied to a live network beyond the research stage. He said the achievement is just the beginning.

Antuña added that EEZ will continue to pursue simultaneous interaction and liquidity integration between Ethereum layers.

EEZ's goal

The Ethereum Economic Zone is a project that aims to integrate the Ethereum mainnet and multiple layer 2 networks as if they were one.
