ETRI to Showcase Three AI Media Technologies at KES 2026
ETRI will present AI video coding based on the MPEG VCM standard, 3D human generation and generative previsualization at COEX in Seoul.
ETRI announced it will unveil three AI-based next-generation media technologies at KES 2026, which opens at COEX in Seoul and runs for four days starting on the 13th, according to inews24.com.
The first is an AI-oriented video coding technology that compresses and transmits the feature information needed for AI object detection, classification and tracking. The work is based on the MPEG VCM international standard.
The second technology generates photorealistic multi-person 3D humans and supports free-viewpoint reproduction using a small number of multi-view cameras. ETRI applied a 3D geometry pre-training encoder, sub-pixel geometry learning and a feed-forward inference method.
The third uses generative AI for previsualization, converting sketches, storyboards and scripts into editable USD-based structured 3D scenes.
Standardization and cooperation plans
ETRI said it intends to expand technology cooperation and commercialization with domestic companies and to pursue international standardization.
Conventional video compression, in contrast, has focused on reducing data volume while maintaining perceived image quality for human viewers, while existing free-viewpoint video has required many cameras and complex computation, limiting production and real-time use.
