final unveils 40g PORTA on-ear wireless headphones
The lightweight on-ear model opens for pre-orders at 12,800 yen and ships from October 23, with Bluetooth 5.4 but no active noise canceling.
Japanese audio company final has announced the PORTA, an on-ear wireless headphone weighing about 40g, with pre-orders open on its own online store at 12,800 yen and shipping starting on October 23, according to digitaltoday.co.kr.
The low weight comes from a headband built out of a single wire. The PORTA is offered with black or orange earpads.
The headphone runs on a 57mAh battery charged over USB-C and is rated for up to 8 hours of use. It supports Bluetooth 5.4 with the SBC and AAC codecs, carries an IPX4 water-resistance rating, and does not include active noise canceling.
The PORTA is not yet listed on final's Amazon store for US consumers.
Lightweight design echoes an earlier era
In the past, lightweight headphones were bundled with Sony Walkman players, and the PORTA's design evokes them. Recently the wireless audio market has competed on noise canceling, long battery life and high-quality audio.
