Galaxy Tab S9 line gets One UI 9 as its final major OS update

Samsung's 2023 tablets have reached the end of their four-generation update promise, with One UI 9 based on Android 17 as the last upgrade.

The Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ are entering their final year of major Android updates, according to Engadget. The One UI 9 update, based on Android 17, will be the last OS upgrade the 2023 tablets receive.

Samsung had promised four generations of major OS updates and five years of security patches for the Galaxy Tab S9 series. With One UI 9, that four-generation commitment is fulfilled.

The earlier Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+ and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra have already taken their last major OS upgrade with One UI 8, based on Android 16. Android 16 is likewise the final major update for the Galaxy Tab A9 and Galaxy Tab A9+.

Longer support on newer models

The Galaxy Tab S9 series launched in 2023 running One UI 5.1 on Android 13. The Tab S8 lineup arrived in February 2022 and is slated to receive security updates until February 2027.

Samsung introduced its seven-year software update policy with the Galaxy Tab S10 series in 2024. The Galaxy Tab A11 and A11+, released in 2025, are eligible for seven years of Android and security updates, while the Galaxy Tab Active5, launched in 2024, carries a four-year commitment to OS updates and five years of security patches.
