Godox A2 magnetic xenon flash launches for iPhone at $85

The clip-on flash attaches like MagSafe and is iPhone-only for now, with Godox saying Android support is in development.

Godox has announced the Godox A2, a xenon flash accessory that attaches magnetically to smartphones, priced at $85. According to androidauthority.com, the device is currently limited to iPhone models.

The A2 uses a xenon flash tube rather than the LED lighting found in most phone flashes, and its magnetic mount works in a similar way to Apple's MagSafe. That means the accessory snaps onto the back of a compatible phone without a cable or bracket.

Godox's product page states that Android support is still under development, so the accessory cannot yet be used with non-Apple phones.

Android handsets once shipped with built-in xenon flashes, but manufacturers abandoned the component more than a decade ago in favour of LED units. Magnetic mounting has since become a hardware feature in its own right: Pixel models have offered native magnetic support since the 10 series, and Motorola's Edge 70 Max includes it as well, alongside the Qi2 standard.
