Google Confirms Fitbit Edge Drops NFC Payments and Safety Features

Google says the new Fitbit Edge fitness tracker will not support contactless payments, Sleep Breathing tracking, or Pixel Watch safety tools.

Google has confirmed which features the newly announced Fitbit Edge will and will not include, according to androidpolice.com. The company said the fitness tracker will not offer NFC for contactless payments, explaining that it prioritized other highly requested features instead.

Google also stated that fewer than 1% of Fitbit Charge 6 users reported using NFC payments, which informed the decision to leave the feature off the Edge. The company added that the Fitbit Edge will not include the Sleep Breathing feature from Health Guardian, and that it is looking into the matter.

Safety features will remain exclusive to the Pixel Watch, Google said, because they require deeper integration with LTE and Wi-Fi to contact emergency services. The Fitbit Edge can still be paired with a second Pixel device so that data from both is recorded in the Google Health app.

Google announced the Fitbit Edge this week (the week of October 15, 2026) with an AMOLED screen, Gemini-powered features, and a $180 price. The tracker is set to launch on October 27, 2026. Its predecessor, the Fitbit Charge 6, debuted in 2023.
