Google app code hints at offline mode for Gemini Live
Strings in Android app version 17.71.17 suggest Gemini Live could work without a connection, according to Android Authority.
Code inside the latest version of Google's Android app, v17.71.17, contains strings and a settings entry tied to an offline mode for Gemini Live, according to an analysis by Android Authority. The strings indicate the real-time voice feature could be used without an internet connection.
The setting may appear in the menu used to switch between Gemini accounts, the outlet reported. Google has not officially announced that it is developing the feature or shared a release schedule.
Google has been working on on-device AI capabilities that could support such a mode. In April 2026, the company released the Gemma 4 model, which can process voice and video without an internet connection, and said it would use Gemma 4 as the basis for Gemini Nano 4, its next-generation on-device model.
Google also recently demonstrated on-device AI technology in a video for developers, showing reduced memory use and faster response times.
