Google Adds Map Tool to Gemini Mobile App
Google has added a Map tool to the Gemini app on Android and iOS, and is testing a change from '/' to '@' for skills in the Google app beta.
Google has added a 'Map' tool to the Gemini app on mobile, available on both Android and iOS. The tool appears at the end of the tool carousel alongside Photos, Camera, Avatar, Files, Drive, and Notebooks.
Tapping Map shows the user's location with a circular focus area on a live map. An 'Explore this area' button adds 'Map Area' to the prompt.
Separately, in the latest beta version of the Google app (17.63), typing a forward slash shows a note that '/' is now '@'. Typing '@' pulls up a box showing skills and the option to create new ones, with connectors listed below.
Android Authority first spotted evidence of the Map feature in February. Google is also replacing Gems with skills, scheduled to roll out on October 13.
Earlier, Google rolled out Guided Vision for Gemini Live to help blind and low-vision users, and Gemini can now connect with Wallet to access boarding passes, event tickets, and more.
