Google Ends Free Safety Signal for LTE Pixel Watch 2 and 3

After December 12th, LTE Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 users will need a mobile plan to use Safety Signal, Google says.

Google announced that LTE versions of the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 are losing free access to Safety Signal. After December 12th, using Safety Signal on an LTE network will require paying for a mobile plan, according to The Verge.

Existing users with free access will be notified by notifications and email. Safety Signal will remain available without a mobile plan during a 30-day transition period starting when the email is sent.

After the cutoff, emergency features will still work on Pixel Watch 2 and 3 without a mobile plan only via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to a smartphone.

Background

Safety Signal previously allowed Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and Safety Check to work over cellular networks without a carrier plan, included with a Google Health Premium subscription.
