Google Issues Play Store Credits in $5 Million Subscription Settlement
Eligible California users are receiving roughly $5.85 in Google Play credit after a class action over automatically renewing subscriptions.
Google has begun issuing one-time Google Play credits to eligible California users as part of a $5,000,000 class action settlement over automatically renewing subscriptions, according to Android Police. Eligible members were told they would receive approximately $5.85.
The credit can be redeemed for movies, music or apps on the Google Play Store. Users who do not have an active Google Play Store account can instead receive the amount through PayPal or Zelle.
To qualify, a user must have paid for at least one renewal term of a Google subscription sold through the Google Play Store between May 30, 2014, and October 27, 2019.
The lawsuit alleged that automatically recurring Google Play Store subscriptions violated California law by failing to disclose the full terms of automatically renewing subscriptions. The court granted preliminary approval of the settlement in January 2026, and any unclaimed funds will be distributed to the California State Bar's Justice Gap Fund as a cy pres award.
