Google Opens SynthID Detector Portal to All Users Worldwide

The synthid.com portal identifies AI-generated photos, video and audio, and reads watermarks from Google, OpenAI, Nvidia and Kakao.

Google said on October 7, 2026, that its SynthID Detector portal is now available to all users globally, according to androidauthority.com. The tool can be reached at synthid.com.

The portal lets users check whether a photo, video or audio track was generated by AI. It reads SynthID watermarks created by Google, OpenAI, Nvidia and Kakao, with support for Apple watermarks coming soon.

Users sign in to synthid.com with a Google, Apple or OpenAI account and then upload media files to scan them. Google has said the detector highlights the specific parts of an image or video that carry the SynthID watermark.

Previously limited access

Before this launch, Google and OpenAI both let users check media for SynthID watermarks, but only through Gemini or OpenAI's website. Google's dedicated SynthID Detector tool had been restricted to select testers for over a year. Those earlier options were narrower: Gemini could only detect watermarks made with Google AI tools, while OpenAI's verification site could only detect SynthID signatures made with OpenAI tools.

The wider rollout follows Anthropic's announcement shortly before this news that Claude can now add watermarks to AI-generated text.
