Google Rolls Out Universal Cart Across Search, Chrome and Gemini
The cart appears in Search, AI Mode, Chrome and the Gemini app in the US, letting shoppers buy from Nike, Target, Walmart and Shopify merchants.
Google has started rolling out its Universal Cart in the US, placing the shopping cart inside Search, AI Mode, Chrome and the Gemini app, according to 9to5google.com. A cart icon now appears in the top-right corner of google.com's homepage and Search results, and on desktop Chrome's New Tab Page.
Clicking the icon slides out a panel with two tabs for Cart and My orders. On mobile, the cart sits to the left of the profile switcher in the Google app for Android and on the AI Mode homepage, while the Gemini app lists Cart and orders in the account menu.
Google product pages gain an Add to cart button, and the cart lets users save products from multiple retailers. It also tracks availability changes and offers price drop notifications, surfaces promo codes, and highlights which payment method in Google Wallet gives the most perks.
Stores including Nike, Target, Walmart and Shopify merchants will let users make purchases directly from the Google interface. The checkout is powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol.
Previewed at I/O
In May 2026, Universal Cart was previewed at Google I/O as a hub for shopping on Google.
