iOS 27 Brings Video Playback and Siri AI to CarPlay

Apple's iOS 27 is available for iPhone 11 and later, and CarPlay video only plays while the car is parked, switching to audio when driving.

Apple has released iOS 27, and the update adds a set of new CarPlay features, including support for video apps and Siri AI on newer iPhones. The update is available for iPhone 11 and later, according to Engadget.

Video playback in CarPlay comes with restrictions built into the system. Video is only shown when the vehicle is parked, and playback switches to audio-only once the car is in motion. Car manufacturers also have to implement support for the feature before it works in a given vehicle.

The Now Playing screen in CarPlay gains a mini-player showing album artwork, playback controls and a progress bar. iOS 27 also adds new CarPlay wallpapers, and navigation apps can now share route data with the car, including stops for EV charging.

Siri AI limited by hardware and region

Siri AI in CarPlay is only available on iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 and later. Apple also does not offer Siri AI in the European Union, citing local regulations.
