iPhone Duo to miss new Reachability feature at October 23 launch
Apple will add a horizontal version of Reachability to the iPhone Duo in the second half of the year, after the phone goes on sale.
Apple's iPhone Duo will not ship with the new Reachability feature when it launches on October 23, according to a report by 9to5Mac. The horizontal version of the one-handed accessibility feature is instead planned to arrive through a software update in the second half of this year.
The new Reachability moves the interface toward the left or right edge of the screen rather than downward. Apple designed it to help users who have trouble reaching elements at the left or right edges of the display.
The iPhone Duo has both an outer display and an inner display that are wider than those of existing iPhones, which puts edge elements further from a user's thumb.
Reachability was first introduced in 2014 alongside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. In the original version, swiping down at the bottom of the screen moves the interface downward so elements at the top are easier to reach.
