K-Moonshot Semiconductor Launches Operations, Tech Committees
The Ministry of Science and ICT held the inaugural meeting on October 14, 2026, in Jeong-dong, Seoul, with Samsung, SK hynix and Jusung Engineering taking part.
The Ministry of Science and ICT launched the operating committee and technology committee of "K-Moonshot Semiconductor" on October 14, 2026 at Dalgaebi in Jeong-dong, Seoul, the ministry announced.
The launch meeting brought together industry, academic and research experts to discuss the K-Moonshot Semiconductor mission, its technology roadmap and future plans. The operating committee is chaired by the semiconductor program director (PD) Kim Ji-young.
The committee includes the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National Research Foundation of Korea, Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and Jusung Engineering. Discussions covered priorities for core technologies, phased goals, ways to link with existing semiconductor R&D programs, and integration and demonstration plans.
K-Moonshot is a program that combines AI with science and technology to address national missions and accelerate innovation. The semiconductor mission, one of 12, aims to secure next-generation semiconductor source technologies that push past current performance and power limits in everyday devices.
As semiconductor use expands from generative AI to on-device and physical AI, the importance of low-power, high-efficiency computing has grown. The industry is also shifting from a focus on scaling down single chips toward a "full-stack" race that vertically integrates devices, processes, memory, packaging and systems.
